MODESTO – August 10, 2009 – A team from Memorial Medical Center was named as one of five finalists in the 5th Annual Culinary Competition presented by the National Society for Health Care Foodservice Management (HFM). Susan Clarot, RD Regional Food Services Manager, and Muni Nadan, Executive Chef, will prepare grilled flat iron steak with fresh valley greens and gorgonzola in light red wine sauce during a live cooking competition at HFM’s annual leadership conference on August 25 in Indian Wells, California.

The HFM Culinary Competition is sponsored by Tyson Foods and was initiated to showcase the most creative culinary talent in the HFM membership, which represents nearly 2,000 on-staff food service professionals at acute, extended and long-term care facilities and suppliers in the U.S. and Canada. The contest also highlights what hospital food can be like at its best. The final competition will involve five teams, each composed of a hospital chef and an operator, that will prepare and assemble an original, creative recipe using the featured product, 5-oz., IBP® flat iron Everyday Steaks™, along with complementary side dishes and sauces. The competition will focus on flavors, taste, creativity and presentation, and the teams will be judged on their final plate presentations and awarded the gold, silver and bronze medals.
