    Complementary Therapy Program

When a person is dealing with a diagnosis of cancer, complementary therapies can be miracles of comfort during the journey of recovery, healing or coping. In the midst of the physical symptoms, fear, anxiety, pain, isolation and focused, intense high tech treatment, complementary therapies create a place of safety where all the issues can be acknowledged, some of them addressed, and the whole person can be validated.

    The Healing Journey

Complementary therapies for cancer survivors and their family members or caregivers:
    Images and Cancer
Unlock elusive emotions and ideas, and bring clarity and definition to your life experiences by expressing yourself through art. No previous art experience is needed. All art materials will be provided for this 10-week session.
    Moving Towards Healing
Stretching, strengthening exercises and exploring expression through movement can help you maintain a healthier physical and emotional self while living with cancer. Please wear comfortable clothing to this 8-week session, designed to support participants at their current levels of comfort and physical activity.
    Writing Through Cancer
Writing about your journey and sharing it with others can be a deeply meaningful activity. Experience emotional and health benefits from sharing your personal story with others, and attain a sense of clarity and control during this 10-week session.
    Healing Yoga
Nourish your mind, body and spirit through gentle postures, quiet stretch and relaxation in this ongoing class. Practicing yoga can restore range of motion, rebuild and increase physical strength, stamina, flexibility and balance while bringing a sense of calm and clarity to your life. Please wear comfortable clothing to this class. Classes are offered Mondays and Thursdays.

For upcoming dates, location, registration or information about any of our Complementary Therapy classes, call (209) 569-7789. Seating is limited.

    Triumph Fitness Program

Triumph is a 10-week strength and fitness program for people who have recently completed cancer treatment.

Participants build muscle mass and strength, increase flexibility and endurance, and improve their capacity to perform activities of daily living. Triumph also may help reduce the severity of cancer side effects, prevent unwanted weight changes and improve energy levels and self-esteem.

A final goal is to help participants develop their own physical fitness regimens — so that they can continue to triumph on their own.

    Who Can Participate
    Adults who:
    - Have completed or are nearing completion of cancer treatment
    - Have a strong personal desire to improve strength and fitness
    - Can commit to a 10-week program
    - Agree to obtain the written consent of their physicians to participate

To learn more about Triumph or to register for an upcoming program, contact Memorial Medical Center’s Cancer Registry at (209) 569-7789.

The Triumph Cycling Team and Triumph Walking Club offer our community’s adult cancer survivors, their family members and caregivers the opportunity to be active on a regular basis in a supportive environment. Being part of a team or club can be a benefit emotionally, physically and socially. Our goal is to give participants a place to connect with others as well as improve current levels of fitness.

For information or to register for either program, call 569-7789.
